Vervain
When a group of Somerset based musicians , each with a varied background (classical, folk, rock) decided to play together something "truly magical" happened.
Long time friends - singer-songwriter and guitarist Jules Reason, classically trained violinist Ali Francis-Black, along with flautist and whistle player Nicky Tiddy - felt a "collective desire to create something extraordinary". Danny McGilloway, who was brought up in the Irish oral music tradition "just turned up one evening with my Bodhran and there is was".
Citing musical interests as diverse as Bach, Beethoven, Einaudi, Show of Hands, Martyn Johnson, The Dubliners and Christy Moore, the resulting musical fusion was an explosion of soul stirring sound, full of light and shade, with every song telling the story of different lives lived, Rooted in traditional Celtic folk, interwoven with a shimmering classical thread, and punctuated by lilting whistles and folk rock riffs, the sound of Vervain was born.
