First grant recipients announced!
Well done to our first Rockhampton Folk Festival Grant Recipients
Making a difference to our community is at the heart of Rockhampton Folk Festival. When we set up the festival one of our dreams was that it could promote and support local music-making. We started this with our programme of outreach which is growing every year.
In 2022 we took the next big step and awarded our first Rockhampton Folk Festival Grants to support music and the arts in our community.
We had many more worthy applications than we could support. We awarded 15 grants of up to £500 each. Recipients included...
The Castle School, Thornbury
Marlwood School, Alveston
St Mary's Primary School, Thornbury
Manorbrook Primary School, Thornbury
Thornbury Area Youth Music
Dovetail Orchestra for asylum-seeking and refugee musicians
Several Ukrainian refugee children to support their music tuition while they are in the UK
Julian House
Carl Morgan music therapist
Thornbury Swing Band
MyThornbury
We'll be showing some of the work we've supported here soon....

Grants are open again for applications later in 2023...
We will consider applications from individuals who want to develop their own music-making or from organisations, educational institutions, charities and groups who share our aim of supporting and developing music-making in our community.
Grants could support specific projects, be for music tuition or education, the purchase of equipment, enhancing venues etc. We don't have any preconceived ideas so be imaginative!
We will prioritise funding for projects, people and organisations that deliver in the areas surrounding Rockhampton.
We know from our own experience how much hassle it can be to apply for grants and funding with complicated application forms that take hours to complete. So we keep things simple with a short and easy to complete online application.

How we assess applications
We will assess and compare grant applications based on the following criteria:
- How our grant will support and advance our objective to advance the education of the general public in, and to promote their appreciation of music and performing arts
- What specific outcomes our grant will achieve
- Where the outcomes will be delivered. (we prioritise funding for projects that deliver in the areas surrounding Rockhampton)
- How much money you are seeking, when you need it and a simple breakdown of how it will be spent
- [for individuals] Evidence of personal commitment to music-making or
- [for organisations] Your track record of delivery of music-making in our community
- How you will acknowledge our support and promote the Rockhampton Folk Festival
We will respond to every application with a decision soon after the closing date.
If you're not successful we'll give you clear honest feedback on your application to help for next time.
