Celebrate Old Twelvey Night in Rockhampton

Join Louis Bingham and Griselda Sanderson on 17 January to celebrate "Old Twelvey Night". This is the day that wassailers visited the cider orchards of England reciting incantations and singing to the trees for a good harvest for the coming year.

Louis and Griselda are a mother and son duo who keep alive the timeless traditions of a musical family. Louis plays fretted instruments such as the Celtic cittern, guitar, and Bulgarian tambura, as well as being an accomplished singer. Griselda plays bowed string instruments including the violin, the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, and the Swedish nyckelharpa. Drawing on midwinter sessions around the hearth they’ve taken their diverse repertoires and combined them to create a distinctive duo sound and a repertoire reaches from Galicia to Norway, from Donegal to Piedmont, and many more places in between.

Making a difference

Making a difference to the local community is at the heart of the Rockhampton Folk Festival.  Knowing that some groups in our community rarely have the opportunity to engage with live performance, we bring festival music to them instead.

Louis and Griselda
will also be touring care homes and special schools courtesy of the proceeds from this event and the summer festival.Find out more about out outreach work here.
