The Widders

Border Morris with attitude !

Border Morris is a tradition from the England/Wales border. During hard winters, farmers would go out dancing to supplement their income. This was a form of begging which was illegal at the time, so dancers took to wearing tatty clothing and blackening their faces to disguise themselves.

The Widders are from Chepstow and have danced at festivals through the UK and Europe including the Stonehenge summer solstice, Green Man and Weyfest..

What's a Widder ?

To most people, a Widder is slang for the infamous black widow spider, but to those who have seen them in action, a Widder is a strange looking creature covered in coloured rags, wearing a top hat and waving a stick whilst jumping around frantically dancing border Morris.
